She enjoyed it as far as I know! My son started playing this game in his Pre K class on a PC that is still running win 98! He kept asking me if I could get this game for him, so the search began and I found both Croc 1 and 2 for windows here on Amazon.
That fact that a PC was running win 98, being used by Pre K kids and was still working astounds me! It is a great game for a 5 year old. Forget windows 8, i never want to deal with that OS! Perfect game for all ages! Good clean, nonviolent fun. It will keep you entertained for hours and it works with Windows One person found this helpful. It does not work on modern computers, so unless you have a really old computer, just forget about it.
Ever since i was a kid i still play this game, matter of fact it was the first videogame i ever bought, and i'll always remember the fun times i had with my younger brother that i played this with, which we still play sometimes, even now I can pop it in my cd player and play the music, i mean what else could a kid ask for in a game?
Yea, the graphics are old, but who cares when there's a ton of fun? Hope they remake this game one day. Yes, I rated this game 5 stars. Why would I rate a game about a little green crocodile with 1 tooth, little fuzzy things called gobos, and lots of other cutesy animals, 5 stars? Because this game does what few others have done: made me unashamed to love a cute, bright, overly-happy game such as this.
The storyline is simple yet fun, the gobos are a puzzle unto themselves just to free, the "special challenges" at the end of each level providing you get all 5 gems are quite hard, the boss's are unique and require some skill, and the graphics are bright, fresh, crisp, and gorgeous.
But my favorite part is still the music, I can't help it, it's so catchy! Listen in particular to the first level's theme and the theme for the first desert level, could it fit the game more perfectly?
The only draw-back, the one and only problem with this game, is controlling dear little Croc. Once you learn to use him correctly he's easy, but sometimes when against a wall the "camera" behind him gets glitchy, and you may have trouble rotating around Croc to see better from a different angle. This can be such a problem that my friend quit the game in frustration after some time struggling with this, but honestly once you get used to it it's not too bad.
I highly recommend this for younger players and for anyone else who can appreciate this game simply for how good it is regardless of how exceedingly cutesy it gets. I first played this game when I was just a kid.
Ever since that day, i've been hooked. What could possibly be cuter than a little green crocodile, that wears a backpack and squeaks. Possibly an exception for the Gobbos. Otherwise I would have to say, nothing. There is nothing cuter than Croc.
Although it is a relatively moderate game in strategy and gameplay, all you diehard, gun-loving gamers out there will probally not apreciate the full value of this game. But for others that enjoy good, innocent fun, that comes in the shape of a crocodile, this game is definately for you. The graphics are old, but it being a cartooned game rather like Monkey Island, it doesn't really effect or bother you. Instead it enhances the overall charm and granduar of this fable.
Definately five stars. More if the rating would allow it. But as it doesn't, I must content myself with a paltry five. A baby crocodile raised by furry creatures named 'Gobbos'. Sounds silly right? Adapted from Playstation version, this games graphics are not the best. Besides that, this game has a lot of content. With Gobbos to free, 9 bosses to beat, and 45 levels plus 24 bonus levels , this game isn't as easy as it looks.
There are over 35 different species of enemies that you can non-violently "kill" or maybe just make dust colored dust out of them. Croc can walk, run, tailswipe, swim, fly on balloons, jump, double jump, do cartwheels, and more! To get to the last 'secret levels' you have to collect every single gobbo. They sit and wait for you on or in boxes, in cages, on platforms, and even in games. Some games are the switch around boxes game, the box chase game, the pot game, and the button-pushing game.
There is a level full of games, and a level full of puzzles. Passwords save your game without using a slot. The games disc is even CD player compatible! There's only so many times you can leap from platform to platform over bubbling lava or deaththreatening water without falling asleep. Croc is a monstrously big game, it plays well, looks nice particularly with the obligatory 3D card , and has even some original ideas. However, it's no classic, possibly because so much of it attempts to emulate someone else's work.
For a game that places so much on the appeal of a central character, it's a very characterless game. The story in Croc is not all that different from other platform games out there. It begins with a baby Croc washing ashore in the land of the Gobbos. Since the Gobbos little furry dudes resembling gerbils found the baby crocodile, they decided it was up to them to raise it.
Before long, Croc was one of the family. He learned the way of the Gobbos as his own. One day, Croc was no longer little any more and he feared that he was more of a hindrance than a help to the Gobbos.
Just as he was deciding it might be time for him to leave the land of Gobbos, the evil Baron Dante invaded the land and captured all of the Gobbos, putting them in cages. Croc was the only one to escape, and it is up to him to free his caged family members as well the king of the Gobbos.
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is a fairly typical platform game in terms of gameplay. But what makes this game shine is the total 3D environment and awesome graphics. As far as the gameplay goes, you will guide Croc through level after level of gathering crystals, smashing boxes, climbing walls, jumping across moving platforms, and kicking some enemy butts. Oh yeah, did I mention you will also swim, fly on balloons, and swing across monkey bars?
All of this adds up to a huge game that is fun Platform games have been around forever. They have been one of the most popular types of games since the beginning of the video game era. With the new technology and new systems, these games just get better and better. The only problem the game companies face is trying to do something that has not been done before, or trying to do something that is different enough to make people take notice. I think Croc falls into this category.
As PlayStation platform games go, Croc may have some familiar sounding plot, not to mention that the gameplay may also have been done before.
But what differentiates this game is the 3D environment. It is pretty awesome! As I said, the gameplay is pretty familiar. You will guide Croc through level after level of jumping on platforms, breaking boxes, collecting crystals, and saving your furry little friends. There are two types of crystals you will encounter on your journey.
The first are the colorless crystals, which are most plentiful. The colorless crystals are the equivalent to coins, fruit, or rings in other popular platform games. This most resembles Sonic the Hedgehog in that if you have any crystals, the enemy will not kill you, but all of your crystals will fly out of your hand.
You have to gather them back before they disappear. The colorless crystals are essential to have when fighting bosses because a lot of the time you can't help getting hit by the boss when you are fighting him. The colored gems are also scattered throughout the levels, but are used for something completely different. There are five different colored gems and if you find all five, you can unlock a bonus door at the end of the level.
Each level has two places where you can end the level. For example, if you do not find all five colored crystals, you can exit from the last screen.
If you do manage to find all five colored crystals, you will go into a bonus area which also has an exit. This means that you do not have to find everything in the level to move on. However, if you want to completely finish the game, you will need to find all of the crystals because there is usually a Gobbo that needs rescuing in the bonus level.
Speaking of rescuing Gobbos, each level has 6 Gobbos located throughout. They are either on high platforms above lava or some other treacherous terrain, hidden in boxes that must be smashed, or locked in cages. For the ones locked in cages, you must locate a key to set them free. In the earlier stages, this is usually fairly easy to do, but if you are not careful in the later stages, you can do things to make the key inaccessible: If you break a box required to reach a key, you are screwed.
You will have to start the level over because the box does not come back. When you do start a level over, it is as if you have not been there before, so you will have to gather all of the crystals and save the Gobbos again. One thing I really liked was that on some of the bonus rooms, instead of just smashing boxes or jumping on platforms, you have to solve puzzles. One of the first puzzles you will get is the old "Gobbo under a hat" puzzle, only this time the Gobbo is under a box.
The boxes then shuffle and you have to follow the box that the Gobbo is under. If you pick the correct box, you will save him.
If not, you will have to start the level over This really helped to keep the game from getting monotonous. This game did have a couple of nagging problems.
